Registration creates an account with Smarkets.

You need a registered account and enough available funds to place a bet. Before submitting, confirm your intended event, selection, stake, liability and potential payout. A mistake in your selection or bet details does not invalidate an accepted bet.
Normally, your bet is placed when confirmation reaches your device, but during a break in communication a bet already received and processed by us still counts as placed even if the acceptance message has not arrived. Confirmation follows when communication resumes. If we did not receive the bet, it does not participate and the stake is not taken. Refresh your account page to establish its status, and if you remain unsure, contact our support team before placing another bet.
Bets match by price first, then by arrival order when prices are equal. An unmatched offer is active immediately, including during an event, but cannot win or lose until another customer matches it.
Our prices can change between adding a selection to your bet slip and submitting it, particularly as events unfold in-play. For bets at larger stakes, we may reduce the offered odds to manage risk.
For SBK-only use, our default commission is 0%. Choosing access to both SBK and Smarkets brings separate commission conditions into effect.
The minimum stake is £/€ 0.05 and the maximum per bet is £/€ 99,999.99. Larger amounts can be placed through separate bets. Decimal, fractional and American prices are converted to percentage odds rounded to the nearest hundredth of a percent, which can round stakes, liabilities or returns to the nearest penny.
We aim to settle promptly once the outcome is determined. Normally the governing body’s official result at the event’s conclusion determines settlement without adjustment for later amendments, subject to sport-specific rules and our right to void or resettle when new information such as cheating, disqualification or rule violations emerges. Without an official result, independent information is used. Uncertainty may delay settlement or lead to a void market if it cannot be resolved satisfactorily.
Technical or human settlement errors may be reversed and balances corrected. We may void erroneous bets, bets affected by suspected fraud or prohibited activity, or bets placed after an outcome is known, and recover funds paid in error. Insider-information betting is prohibited. Suspected breaches can lead to voiding and withheld winnings, while suspected criminal interference with an event can cause winnings to be set aside during investigation and related bets voided if confirmed.
Unless sport-specific rules supersede them, cancellation of an event voids its bets, as do changes of opponents, venue or event length. An abandoned event that does not conclude within 36 hours of its scheduled start is void, and a postponement beyond that same interval also voids bets. A change of surface leaves bets standing. Dead heats divide returns in proportion to the expected and actual numbers of winners, with multi-winner markets affected only where a tie extends beyond the remaining winning places.
We attempt to halt markets at the start and finish of an event, but exact timing is not guaranteed. If a market misses the start halt and never goes in-play, bets matched after the start are void. If it later turns in-play, those bets generally stand. For scouted football, a goal, penalty or red card before that halt means bets matched after the material event are void, while earlier matches stand. At the finish, we may cancel outstanding offers or void bets matched after the event ended.
For these start-time rules, horse racing uses the official off, scouted football uses the scout’s kick-off notification, and other events use the scheduled start or available information where no official schedule exists.
Markets using a betting delay apply four seconds for horse racing and eight seconds for other events before placing the bet into the market. During that interval you cannot adjust or cancel it. These delayed markets are unmanaged and do not halt for material events. Increases to stake or odds also incur the delay.
Unmatched bets are cancelled by default when the market halts. To retain an individual offer at the start, open its settings, select Keep in-play and confirm. In Instant Match football, retained offers keep their queue position through a material event, while other unmatched bets are cancelled. A matched in-play bet is void if a material event occurs during its eight-second confirmation period. Removing a horse-racing non-runner with a reduction factor cancels all unmatched offers.
A multiple combines selections from different events. Voiding a selection reduces its odds accordingly, and a reduction factor on a selected market also reduces the multiple’s price. In a same-event Bet Builder, any void or dead-heat selection voids the entire bet and returns the stake, even if another selection has already lost. A horse-racing Bet Builder is also void if a reduction factor is applied to an included market after placement. Cash out for same-event multiples ends when the event turns in-play.
Open Funds, select Deposit, then use Deposit Funds to add a new payment method, provide its details and choose an amount. The name on the card, bank account or other payment method must match your account holder name. If Smarkets identifies third-party funding, it may return the deposit to its source and void associated winnings, deducting bank or payment-gateway charges from the reversed amount.
For UK card payments we accept UK Debit Cards, not credit cards.
| Deposit method | How to use it |
|---|---|
| Pay by Bank | Select the method and approve the payment through your banking app. |
| Visa or Mastercard debit card | Enter your card details and amount. |
| Apple Pay | Use an iOS device and authenticate with Touch ID, Face ID or your passcode. |
| Google Pay | Authorise the payment through your Google account. |
| Trustly | Authenticate through your online bank. UK availability excludes the Isle of Man, Guernsey and Jersey. |
| PayPal | Authorise in the PayPal window. UK payments use GBP only. |
Our accounts support GBP and EUR, with method-specific currency restrictions. Instant Bank Transfer is GBP-only for UK customers and banks may impose lower transaction or daily limits. A first deposit from a new bank account can leave that withdrawal method unavailable for up to 24 hours, except with Revolut, where it becomes available as soon as the deposit is processed.
Deposited money is for betting. Refunding an unused deposit is at Smarkets’ discretion. Payment-method abuse may result in processing costs being offset against your balance without notice. Transactions undergo anti-money-laundering checks, and funds cannot be moved between customer accounts. Debit-card statements show Smarkets Ltd.
In Funds, choose Withdraw. On Withdraw Funds, select a payment method and enter the requested details. You can request part or all of your available funds, subject to the method’s limits and applicable checks. UK users cannot cancel pending withdrawals.
| Withdrawal method | Applicable conditions |
|---|---|
| Pay by Bank | Return funds to the eligible bank account. |
| Visa or Mastercard debit card | Some Mastercard and Maestro methods only return net deposits, with profits paid through another eligible method. |
| Apple Pay | Returned to your deposit source where possible under our closed-loop rules. |
| Google Pay | Return to an eligible payment source under the same funding rules. |
| Trustly | Returned to your linked bank account. |
| PayPal | GBP withdrawals only for the UK payment option. |
| Bank Transfer | Withdrawal-only route once other withdrawal options have been exhausted. |
We return money to the original deposit method wherever possible. Net deposits are deposits minus withdrawals for each method. If you used several methods, first balance the positive net deposits on each before taking extra funds through a preferred route. Your withdrawal screen shows eligible methods and the maximum available for each. The final withdrawal method remains at Smarkets’ discretion.
If a card expires and the replacement is from the same bank, save the new card by making a deposit, then remove the old one through Funds. If a lost, stolen, expired or closed method cannot be removed, contact support. We may need ownership documents for the old and replacement methods before enabling the change.
Smarkets may process a withdrawal only after the identification and verification requirements are satisfied. Identity authentication is required for withdrawals over £1,450 or the currency equivalent and may also be requested below that amount. If within two weeks of a withdrawal request Smarkets is unable to verify your identity to its satisfaction, that request will be cancelled and the funds returned to your account.
Withdrawal processing and arrival in your bank are separate steps. For Bank Transfer, processing takes 5-10 business days. This route requires a bank statement showing your name and bank details, valid photo ID, verified address and matching currencies between your betting and bank accounts. UK bank details must include the account number and sort code.
If Pay to Bank appears alongside a card withdrawal, you can select it and link your bank through TrueLayer. The bank account must be verified as the account used for the original card deposit, with a matching account name. If verification fails, the normal card option remains available.
Smarkets does not charge for Instant Bank Transfer or Bank Transfer, although your bank may charge for the latter. Other transaction charges depend on currency and payment method, and payment-processing fees may apply under the relevant conditions. Available cashier limits govern your chosen transaction.
Reasonable suspicion of prohibited activity or suspicious betting can lead to suspension without notice while we investigate. Funds stay in the account but cannot be accessed or withdrawn during suspension. If the issue is resolved satisfactorily, we lift the suspension. If the investigation reasonably establishes prohibited activity, we restrict or permanently close the account and may pass details to regulators or law enforcement.
We may refuse or close an account at our discretion, with winnings or outstanding wagers subject to forfeiture under that power and deposits potentially held for suspected criminal or fraudulent acts. Accepted bets ordinarily remain payable on closure, subject to illegal-activity and prohibited-activity exceptions.
Where illegal activity has occurred, there is no obligation to refund the balance. A reasonable finding of prohibited activity or suspicious betting allows affected bets or transactions to be voided, attributable balances withheld, and associated deposits, payouts, bonuses, winnings and processing or operational costs recovered. Attributable sums already withdrawn must be repaid on demand. Processing fees may reasonably be deducted from a refund when permanent closure is decided or required.
You can browse events and odds in our app before registering. To deposit and bet, follow the account-creation banner, enter an email address and password, then provide your name, date of birth and address. Registration creates an account with Smarkets.
Create accountWe try electronic identity checks first. If those cannot verify your account, upload photo identification and proof of address in the app. Smarkets may request identity, residency, source-of-funds or source-of-wealth documentation where laws, regulations or regulators require it. Insufficient identity information or unsatisfactory responses about funds may lead to suspension of account functions, including betting and withdrawals, or account closure. Relevant information may be passed to the authorities.
Proof of identity can be a passport, photo driving licence or national identity card. Use a different document for address verification. Accepted address evidence includes a bank, building society or credit union statement, utility bill or local-authority residency certificate issued within the last 3 months, or a current-year council tax or tax bill. Paper documents and PDFs are accepted, but online-document screenshots and mobile phone bills are not. Supply complete, legible documents with all corners visible.
Open Account and My Limits to set daily, weekly or monthly deposit limits. Choose the period and amount, then select Set Limit. A gross limit counts all deposits in that period. A net limit subtracts withdrawals from deposits, so withdrawals can restore deposit allowance within the same period.
Lowering an existing deposit limit takes effect immediately. Increasing it requires a seven-day cooling-off period, remains subject to approval and is not available in every circumstance. Other changes to your account limits can also be subject to a seven-day cooling-off period.
For UK accounts, the default Monthly Net Deposit Limit and any default daily net limit depend on when you registered, unless you selected lower limits at sign-up. We may reduce these limits to meet regulatory requirements and may require proof of income for an increase request.
You can set a loss limit in My Limits for a day, week, month or year. It is a net limit that accounts for exposure and profit or loss within the period. Winnings increase the remaining allowance, while losses reduce it in the period when bets settle, regardless of when they were placed. Increasing or removing it requires a mandatory cooling-off period.
Limit periods reset at midnight. Weekly, monthly and yearly periods run for 7, 30 and 365 days from setting the limit rather than following calendar boundaries. A daily deposit or loss limit first applied after midnight lasts through the current day and the following full day before resetting daily. A user-set limit can be removed through Account after its selected period has elapsed, subject to the applicable cooling-off requirements.
In My Limits, choose Time out, select a duration, confirm and initiate it. We offer 1, 7, 31 or 42 days. Account access and all account features are blocked throughout the chosen period, and it cannot be reversed early. Your account reopens automatically at the end. Although the cashier is inaccessible during the break, our support team can arrange a withdrawal by email.
To self-exclude, open Account, then My Limits and Self-exclusion, and configure the period. We offer six months, one year, five years or permanent exclusion. Contact support for a period longer than five years or a permanent closure. Access cannot be reinstated during the selected term, and permanent exclusion cannot be reopened.
You can extend an exclusion at any time, with the extension taking effect when received. A finite exclusion remains in place after its term ends until you contact support by email to reactivate, with a one day cooling off period applying. Smarkets will not accept bets contrary to your exclusion.
Any remaining balance is returned automatically within 48 hours of self-exclusion. Contact customer support if you need to request it sooner.
If you create duplicate accounts during exclusion, we will try to detect and close them. Losses before detection are not refunded. Smarkets may withhold winnings while returning deposited money, and any winnings withheld on that basis are donated to a responsible-gambling charity chosen by Smarkets.
GAMSTOP is a free service for self-exclusion across online gambling businesses licensed in Great Britain.
Select Forgot password? on the login screen and enter your registered email address and date of birth. We will send reset instructions to that email. Repeated incorrect login attempts can block access, in which case our support team can help.
Possible reasons include incomplete email verification, a mismatch between billing and account addresses, making the payment outside the card’s registration country, repeated card use within the last 12 hours, a bank security block, insufficient funds or reaching a transaction limit. Contact us if the reason is unclear.
You may cancel unmatched offers only to the extent that they remain unmatched. Once an order is placed, amendment, withdrawal, cancellation and cash out are not guaranteed. We may suspend a market or cancel existing offers where necessary. If betting on an event is stopped, the full amount of open offers is refunded.
Open My Bets and select Upcoming to find cash out when available, or use Outright for an outright bet. Tap the cash-out option, then confirm. Cash out places a counter-bet on the opposite outcome and applies to the individual contract rather than the whole market. A successful request credits the offered amount to your balance and appears in your bet history.
Your cash-out request is not guaranteed to be accepted. A price movement before processing can prevent it. An unsuccessful request produces a reason and may be followed by a different offer. Cash out is unavailable during suspension and when pre-event coverage ends without in-play coverage.
For accumulators, tap once to obtain a cash-out quote. Repeated tapping can cause lag or unintended execution, including a duplicate cash out. Live selections can extend the delay. In-play cash-out requests are delayed so that a material event can suspend execution.
If a cashed-out contract or market is later voided, only the original stake is returned. Cash-out winnings are removed and cash-out losses restored when the market is voided or settled.
You need a registered account and enough available funds. Before submitting, confirm the event, selection, stake, liability and potential payout.
The minimum stake is £/€ 0.05 and the maximum per bet is £/€ 99,999.99. Larger amounts can be placed through separate bets.
For SBK-only use, the default commission is 0%. Choosing access to both SBK and Smarkets brings separate commission conditions into effect.
