SBK Terms and Conditions
Using our website
On this website, we explain the main conditions relevant to your use of SBK. Read these alongside the full account terms presented when you register, the rules for your chosen sport and any conditions attached to a promotion. This page summarises those requirements. It does not replace the account agreement.
For questions about this website, use the support channel within your SBK account or visit Contacts.
Your account agreement
Opening an SBK account also opens an account with Smarkets. The SBK account terms identify Smarkets (Malta) Limited, registered in Malta under company number C 44795, as the contracting legal subject.
For UK-registered customers, Smarkets (Malta) Limited holds Gambling Commission licence 000-039173-R-319366-002. That licence belongs to the named company.
You must accept the account terms during registration. Smarkets may update its terms and betting rules, with notice beforehand or as soon as reasonably possible. If you do not accept a notified change, the account terms require you to stop using the service, withdraw the available balance and close the account promptly.
Eligibility and account security
You must be at least 18 to open an account. A higher local minimum age applies where required, and you are responsible for checking whether betting is permitted where you are. Registration is unavailable to people resident in, or visiting, prohibited jurisdictions.
The account rules require you to:
- Give accurate identity, address and contact details, and keep them current.
- Maintain a single personal account without sharing it. The restriction also applies per residential address, internet address and device.
- Keep your sign-in details private and secure.
- Act for yourself, without buying, selling or transferring accounts.
- Avoid unlawful funds, unauthorised payment accounts, collusion and attempts to interfere with the service.
Verification and withdrawals
Smarkets may ask for evidence of your identity and residence. Where required by law, regulation or a regulator, it may also request documents explaining your funds or wealth, such as bank statements or payslips.
Insufficient verification can result in restrictions on betting and withdrawals, account suspension or closure. Withdrawal processing depends on completing the required checks. If Smarkets cannot satisfactorily verify your identity within two weeks of a withdrawal request, its terms provide for cancellation of that request and restoration of the money to your account balance.
Payment limits and any applicable fees depend on the payment method. Transfers between different customers' accounts are not permitted. Account balances do not earn interest.
Placing and managing bets
Check the general betting rules and the rules for the particular sport and market before staking money. Your account must have enough funds for the bet. A settled bet is governed by the terms and betting rules applicable when it was accepted.
Once an order has been submitted, amendment, cancellation and cash-out are not guaranteed. In-play scores may lag behind the event or contain inaccuracies. Check the match situation before betting. If a service interruption prevents you from managing an open position, contact SBK account support promptly.
SBK's default commission is 0%. The separate Smarkets commission provisions apply when you choose to hold accounts for both products. Those provisions should not be read as SBK's default charges.
Promotions
Each promotion has its own eligibility and qualifying conditions in addition to the general account terms. Read those conditions before opting in or placing a qualifying bet.
| Requirement | What it means |
|---|---|
| Minimum age | Under-18 entries are invalid. |
| Individual eligibility | A promotion is available once per person. Duplicate accounts may lose promotional benefits. |
| Direct invitations | An email or text offer is limited to customers who received it directly from Smarkets. |
| Commission tiers | Pro Tier customers cannot receive commission-based promotions. Neither Pro Tier nor Select Tier customers qualify for promotional commission rates. |
Smarkets may exclude customers from promotions. Meeting a headline staking requirement alone does not establish eligibility.
Inactive accounts and closure
Under the account terms, twelve months without logging in makes an account inactive. For UK residents, the monthly inactivity charge is the greater of €5 or 5% of the remaining balance.
Smarkets gives 30 days' notice before charging and attempts to return the balance to the last payment method first. Monthly charges continue until activity resumes or the balance reaches zero. Where the account becomes active again, the terms limit the applicable charge to six months. You may ask account support to refund inactivity fees. An inactive account that remains at zero for six consecutive months may be closed.
To close your account voluntarily, withdraw its funds and contact SBK account support by email. For exclusion options and gambling controls, see Responsible Gambling.
Questions and disputes
For help with these pages, use the support channel within your SBK account. Account, transaction and settlement complaints should be raised with SBK account support.
Where a UK customer's dispute with Smarkets remains unresolved and reaches deadlock, the account terms provide for referral to the Independent Betting Adjudication Service. That process starts with a request for an adjudication form and proceeds in writing.
